DSI Youth Leadership program provides access to resources and opportunities for young people with skills to reach their full potential. The Leadership program is first to validate our young people’s’ dreams and aspirations then provide guidance and mentorship. Our vision is to organize, create an environment where immigrants youths and young adults can develop effective life skills, tools to develop leadership and soft skills through workshops, conferences, debates on different topics affecting minority youths. Also creates awareness on communities’ challenges, take initiatives in resolving those issues in teams, to rebuild the image of minority communities. D&SI provides a platform for minority youths in our community to experience and have access to resources that will help them develop life skills as they grow into the best citizens and reaching their full potential. It also regroups, empowers and inspires youths minority to broaden their vision in life, take risks toward achievable goals, and also to develop wisdom and character to become the best version of themselves.

Objectives

  • Facilitate the insertion of youths and young adults in the community.
  • Encourage a positive attitude and the spirit of community involvement
  • Build a database of expertise in order to promote the youths in the community.
  • Collaborate with sister organizations to create synergy for the promotion of teens and young adults
  • Advocate in DMV region with the local and national governments for minority youths and young adults access to opportunities, jobs, training, leadership conferences
  • Recommend to members or their designees the services and benefits offered to DSI (scholarships and apprenticeships, financial literacy, other services)
  • Collaborate with governments to put in place mechanisms that encourage the corporate to invest in Youth and adult program.

We take this initiative to create awareness of the challenges facing our community in general but most importantly of our youth and young adults. It is critical not only to continue the discussion but also to take sustainable actions that assure a brighter future for the next generation.

Dreams are the driving force for our existence. Considering other defies such as injustice, inequality, and poverty in our society today, does the next generation have the freedom to dream and believe that those aspirations will be fulfilled? How can we make a positive impact in the lives of our young immigrants? These are a few pivotal questions that each one of us should ask ourselves. If we answer them right, we may have something like: Yes, our young people should have the freedom to dream and believe that those aspirations can be fulfilled if we validate those dreams along with guidance and empowerment.

As young professionals of our generation, we have the most significant responsibility in preparing our youths for the challenges of tomorrow. Thus, we cannot be silent in taking initiatives that impact their lives in a positive way. A community that embraces the future will prosper while those who don’t will decline. We must create possibilities and opportunities for the next generation to lead themselves and others efficiently. For that, we must have a platform that can allow them to face the adversity with character and integrity.

At DSI, we believe in widening our knowledge and absorbing the truth about life as we re-mold ourselves. Therefore, our Youth Leadership program will mentor, provide access to resources and opportunities as we partner with community organizations to equip the next generation.

The focus of DSI is on the areas we strive in our community which are Academic Excellence, Community Engagement, Personal and professional development. The effects of the community outside our homes often lead our young people where only a few reach their full potential.
